Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What help can Caregivers of the Carolinas provide?
Caregivers of the Carolinas can help with any activity of daily living (ADL), including dressing, bathing, preparing meals, transportation, light housekeeping, getting around the house, and providing companionship when you need a friend to talk to.
We do not provide in-home medical services such as home health aide services or physical or occupational therapy. We can, however, help seniors manage their medications, schedule medical appointments, and provide transportation to and from appointments.
Q: What are some options for seniors as their health begins to decline?
Each senior adult's unique needs must be taken into consideration. Some questions for seniors and their family members to think about include:
How important is it to stay in their own home?
Are there friends and family members that can visit when needed?
Does the person have a circle of friends through church or another social activity?
Is he or she able to maintain his or her home?
Does the senior feel safe in his or her home?
Are healthcare services available?
When a senior adult does not feel he or she can safely stay in his or her home, even with assistance, other options available include independent living communities, assisted living communities, and skilled nursing facilities.
Q: Are home help services, such as Caregivers of the Carolinas, covered by insurance?
Most home help services are not covered by health insurance or long term care policies, as the assistance received is not medical in nature. Some organizations, such as the Alzheimers Association, will pay for respite services for a primary caregiver. We accept the vouchers from Alzheimers Association. It is always a good idea to check with your insurance carrier to see if home help is covered.
Q: It's difficult to trust the care of my parent to a stranger. How are your caregivers selected?
We believe our ability to provide quality home help service depends heavily on the quality of people we recruit to serve as caregivers. We understand it can be difficult to give a stranger access to your home, or the home of a loved one. That's why we only select the most qualified and committed caregivers to assist our clients.
All our caregivers are thoroughly screened, including both state and national criminal background checks, and have been extensively trained. Most have experience working in residential senior care settings, as well. All our employees are also insured and bonded.
Q: What should I do if there is a problem with my home help care?
We strive to ensure that you will never have any complaints about your in-home help, but in case there is ever an issue which needs to be discussed with a care coordinator, all clients will be given the direct telephone numbers for Caregivers of the Carolinas' two care coordinators. These numbers will enable clients or family members to reach us at any time of day.
